In preparation for the Provincial Chapter of the Maltese Franciscan Province of Friars Minor the Minister Provincial, Fr. Sandro Overend OFM and the Secretary of the Province, Fr. Alex Borg OFM, have arrived in Tripoli on Monday 3rd February, to conduct the Canonical Visitation of the Friars in Tripoli until the 6th February.
The two Franciscan Friaries in Tripoli and Benghazi depend on the Maltese Franciscan Province. The Libya Mission was in fact entrusted by the Order to the Maltese Franciscans twenty years ago.
The Minister Provincial will be visiting the Benghasi Friary at a later date.
Towards the end of March the Franciscan Friars in Tripoli and Benghazi will also be welcoming Fr. Salvatore Ferro OFM. Fr. Salvatore is the Visitator General for the Friars of the Maltese Franciscan Province. He will be conducting, in the name of the Franciscan Minister General, the Provincial Chapter which will be celebrated between the 12th and 16th May.
Fr. Salvatore Ferro is a member of the Franciscan Province of the Holy Name of Jesus in Sicily, Italy.
The Provincial Chapter is elective. A new Minister Provincial will be elected by the Friars, together with a Vicar Provincial and four counselors.
