Monthly Prayer Meeting

tagiezucrossThe Franciscan fraternity of the church of Saint Mary of Jesus (Ta’ Giezu) in Valletta, is going to organize a monthly prayer meeting in front of the miraculous Crucifix venerated in this church. The prayer meeting is to be held every last Friday of every month from 8 till 9.30pm.

As a follow-up to the good response of the faithful who came in throngs to Mass and Catechesis on the Passion of Christ during the Fridays of Lent, it has been decided to continue this experience once a month.

The venerated Crucifix was sculptured in the beginning of the 17th century by a Franciscan lay-brother, Frate Umile da Petralia Soprana, from Sicily, and was brought to Malta by the Franciscans of Ta’ Giezu Church in Valletta in 1636. It is made of a single olive-wood trunk, and is a dramatic representation of the suffering Christ, which has attracted the devotion of the Maltese for countless generations.
