On Sunday 28 May 2006, Solemnity of the Ascension of Christ, Fr. Kamillu Aquilina OFM, celebrated 60 years of priesthood ministry during a solemn Mass at the parish church of the Virgin Mary of the Sacred Heart (Sacro Cuor) in Sliema.

During his long life as a Franciscan priest, Fr. Kamillu worked in various Franciscan friaries, particularly as Guardian at the Gozo friary and for many years as a confessor and preacher at the Sacro Cuor parish in Sliema. Fr. Kamillu has always been full of enthusiasm in his ministry, and was famous as a popular preacher in all the parishes of Malta and Gozo. Until only recently Fr. Kamillu would render his services as confessor at the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli (Porziuncola) in Assisi during the summer months. Fr. Kamillu is also known as a prolific popular writer of poems for various occasions, collections of which are kept in the Provincial OFM Archives in Valletta.

During his homily, the Minister Provincial Fr. Paul Galea, recalled the long years of untiring ministry of Fr. Kamillu and wished him more years of priestly work. He also recalled that this happy occasion coincided with the 125th anniversary of the arrival of the Franciscan friars at the Sacro Cuor parish in Sliema.
