Religious Profession and the rite of Initiation

On the 6th of September our novice Aaron Abdilla made his first profession for a year, which marks the beginning of his first year as a Franciscan Student.  He renewed his vows after completing his year as a novice in Assisi.  Later on this month Aaron, will be beginning his studies in Philosophy and Theology at the Antoniaum – a Franciscan University in Rome. The celebration for the Renewal of Vows started with the Celebration of the Eucharist by the Provincial Minister, Fr. Sandro Overend OFM. It was held at our Franciscan Church in Hamrun, a church which is dedicated to Saint Francis Stigmatised.

After Mass, the rite of Initiation to the Franciscan way of life took place: This involved Ramon Farrugia from Attard, Andrea Diacono from Balzan, and Clive Camilleri from Birkirkara.  This initiated their deepening into the Franciscan way of life.  A reading from the life of Saint Francis by Br Thomas of Celano followed, after which the Provincial Minister asked various questions to the new candidates to express their willingness and knowledge to embark on their first stage of Religious Life. The new Franciscan Habits were blessed, and then, the three of them were vested with the Franciscan Habit.  They were welcomed by a warm applause from the congregation.

All three will be going to Assisi to join the other thirteen novices from Italy, where they will begin their formation during their Novitiate at San Damiano.

We would like to wish Aaron every success in his studies and in deepening his Franciscan life.  We also augur that the experiences of Ramon, Clive, and Andrea, will be enlightened by the Spirit of prayer, peace, humility, and holiness.  May the Holy Spirit and Our Father Saint Francis be with them as they travel the Franciscan way of life.
