An evening in memory of the late Fr John Abela

The coming Thursday, the 20th of January 2011, will be celebrated as a tribute to the late Fr John Abela OFM. The programme for this memorial celebration will begin at 7.00pm with Holy Mass. After the celebration of the Eucharist, there will be an introduction followed by contributions from various individuals who will eulogise his work and his unique personality. The programme will include the following:

• A reflection on the philosophical thinking and his contribution to the Maltese literature by Karistu Abela, brother of fr John.
• Fr Twanny Chircop will share his experience of Fr John and his work in the Holy Land.
• Fr George Aquilina will present reflections on Fr John and History.
• Tonio Farrugia will be presenting his experiences of Fr John in relation to Archaeology and Nebo.
• The Theatrical group – SKENE – will be presenting the personality of Fr John; especially Fr John’s relationships with youth.
• Joe Quattromani will share the contribution that Fr John gave to the Maltese theatre.
After this activity Manuel Cassar will read some extracts from the works of Fr John. The evening will be animated by members from the SKENE group.
