The last weekend saw the anniversary of two of our brothers, who celebrated the 50th Anniversary of their priesthood. Fr. John Micallef celebrated a thanksgiving Mass on Saturday morning and Fr. Godfrey Micallef celebrated Mass on Sunday morning.

Fr. John Micallef from St. Venera, was born on 11th December 1931, and joined the Franciscan Order on 30th September 1947. He did his novitiate in the Franciscan friary of St. Anthony in Gozo. A year later he made the Temporary Profession on October 2, 1948 and his Solemn Profession on December 28, 1952. He was ordained priest by the Archbishop Mgr. Michael Gonzi at St. John Co-Cathedral in Valletta on April 6, 1957. Among his duties in the Franciscan Province we see him as Master of Postulants and Students, vicar in Valletta and Hamrun friaries, sacristan, Spiritual Director of the Legion of Mary and now Chaplain of the Franciscan Missionaries of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Hamrun.

Fr. Godfrey Micallef from Rabat, was born on 19th December 1931, and joined the Franciscan Order on 19th September 1948. He also did his novitiate in the Franciscan friary of St. Anthony in Gozo. A year later he made Temporary Profession on September 25, 1949 and his Solemn Profession on April 6, 1952. He was Ordained priest by the Archbishop Mgr. Michael Gonzi at St. John Co-Cathedral in Valletta on April 6, 1957. From 1987 till 1993 he was parish priest for the Maltese Community at the parish of Christ the King, Lockleys, Adelaide, S. Australia. For 16 years he was an Associate Pator in St. Paul Parish in Toronto, Canada, and for 3 years he was superior at our House in London. From 1970 till 1978 he returned to Malta, and became a teacher at Dingli Secondary School and also in our Franciscan Friary in Gozo.
