Opening of “Domus Pacis Franciscan Retirement Friary – Porziuncola”

On the 14th April on our return to Fekruna Bay we headed towards Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq for the formal opening of “Domus Pacis Franciscan Retirement Friary – Porziuncola” to mark the first centenary of the foundation of the Province.

The small friary has been very beautifully transformed into a nursing home for our aged friars. Bro. Lorrie Zerafa ofm, the local superior, has been instrumental in making the place a most welcoming and comfortable home for our aged friars. He has the support of a very dedicated staff of qualifed care workers and housekeepers to help him, all very smart in their uniforms. Together they have transformed “Domus Pacis Franciscan Retirement Friary” literally into a home with all the necessary amenities which one would expected to find, including a nursing station and reception hall, a small chapel, a new combined kitchen dinning room, with cctv and a hall porter for security reasons.

A beautiful front gate with the emblem of the Franciscan Order and three flag posts for the flags of the Order of Malta and of the Vatican enhance to outside of the residence. The first three friars who have been admitted are Fr. Sebastian Camilleri ofm, Fr. Gwann Micallef ofma and Fr. Cherubim Galea ofm. All the rooms have bathrooms ensuite and are fitted with air-conditioner, telephone and television, and each room is arranged according to their individual tastes and needs. We urge all the friars of the province, the relatives and friends of the resident friars to visit them regularly. Praise be to God.
