Day of Consecrated Life

friar.jpgThe Church dedicates 2 February, liturgical feast of the Presentation of the Lord in the Temple, to the theme of consecrated life. Consecrated persons are those who freely choose to follow Jesus Christ by embracing the three evangelical counsels, namely, obedience, poverty, and chastity, and who live together in a religious community, or fraternity.

In our Franciscan churches this day will also be commemorated by a concelebrated Mass focusing on the theme of consecrated life. During the Mass the Candlemas celebration takes place, in which candles are lit, blessed and carried in procession, as a symbol of Christ, the light of the world, who offers Himself to the Father.

Moreover the Church in Malta is going to organize a meeting of prayer, songs and experiences for this occasion. The meeting is going to be held on 7 February. The first part of the meeting will be addressed by Sr. Rose-Therese Ellis OSC, Abbess of the Poor Clares. The Archbishop of Malta, Mgr. Joseph Mercieca, will conclude the meeting.
