Message from JPIC Malta on the situation in Turkey

Following news about the situation in Turkey, the Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation O.F.M.,  states that we are very concerned about our Franciscan brothers who for the past ten years have made a big connection between their own lives and their personal responsibility to be present and give service for dialogue.

The liturgical special day on Saturday, 30th July 2016 at the Peace lab Hal Far at 6:00pm, will be the focal point for the cry of mercy.  It means that we are not powerless.  We can do somthing. We ask you to join us.  There will be no shouting – it will be a religious act that connects our Sunday mass with the nerve centre of political turmoil.  A large lighted candle will be projected on the screen of the chapel with the message: “Darkness cannot drive out darkness,  only light can do that.  Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that.”  A short documentary “Ten years of Service” will be shown.

Our challenge is to find ways of communicating the urgency and the possibility of staying near our brothers in this hour of trouble.  If you have your own thoughts of how we might best approach this do share them with us.
