INĦOBBOK – the play

Play - InhobbokSKENE presents “Inhobbok” (I love You) – an original play for Holy Week 2008 at Metanoia Theatre on Saturday 15th, Sunday 16th, Wednesday 19th and Sunday 23rd March 2008 at 7.30 pm. Work on this new production has been going on for some time now and promise an “uncomfortable” evening in the theatre stalls as has been their past productions written and directed by Fr. John Abela ofm.

INHOBBOK is a play which does not follow the traditional lines of a passion play. In fact it tries to reach out and ponder in the depths of human nature in its quest for serenity and joy. INHOBBOK is also a voice shrieking in the silence of contemporary society in its search for light out of many dark tunnels. The originality does not come from the story itself. The event is always the same one which took place way back in Jerusalem at the time of Pontius Pilate. It aims at making us “stop and think”, “stop and remember”, “stop and be there”. We might call it an act of faith even if faith does not need to be the dominant key! The play traspose the story to an undisclosed location and is not tied down to Jerusalem as the focal geographical point. The Cross above rises also above other hills or mountains, in squares or houses. The play creates a bridge between the past and our present, between the historic suffering of the Christ and human suffering. It also brings out the contrast between God’s unconditional love for humanity and man’s conditioned loving experience.

Main roles are played by Andrè Penza, Frida Cauchi, Veronica Farrugia, Mark Mifsud, Sarah-Lee Zammit, Raymond Darmanin, Eleanor Cassar, Sandro Farrugia, Chris Penza, Pamela Schembri, Olivia Anne Marmarà…
