The TAU Edition together with the Commissariat of the Holy Land has launched a new book by Mons. Lawrence Sciberras. The title of the book is:”Persunaġġi Rgiel fil-Bibbja » On reading the book one comes across a vast number of personalities found in the Bible.  These include: saints, patriarchs, prophets, judges, kings, slaves, centurions, deacons, married couples, and the wise personalities.  Other personalities that dominated the political scene such as Ahaz, Pontius Pilate, Publius, the centurion, are to be found including; together with their mysteries doubts such as Enok, Job and the prophet Jonah. On the 29th September, Gerald Xuereb started his journey in the Franciscan way of Life. Gerald, who is 36 years old and who comes from Hamrun went through a time of discernment to ascertain his religious and Franciscan call. In the light of his discernment, he started his year as a postulant. Gerald was a member of the Hamrun group ‘GIFRA’. The celebration of the Eucharist was held at our Franciscan Church ‘Saint Mary of Jesus’ in Valletta. It was during this celebration that Gerald was welcomed to form part of the Franciscan family. On the 21^st of September, feast of St. Matthew, Frs. Walter Vassallo OFM and Joseph Ciappara OFM professed their final vows at St Mary of the Angels’ church at Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq.  Mass was celebrated by the Provincial Minister Sandro Overend OFM; together with the participation of other Friars and Priests, while family members, friends, and colleagues joined the celebration.  In his homily, the Provincial Minister combined the call, to follow Christ in the steps of Francis, of both Walter and Joseph and urged them to continue to follow Christ by being guided by the Gospel. As part of the feast of Saint Francis Stigmatized which was celebrated at our Church at Hamrun, on the 19th of September; the traditional blessing of pets and other animals took place.  This year, this festivity was celebrated in collaboration with the Hamrun Local Council.  Like any other year, people were encouraged to bring along their pets and other animals together with fruit and plants.  This was to stress on the fact that as a Franciscan group, the congregation was also celebrating Saint Francis’ love to God for all His creation.  All those who participated were given a commemorative medal and a certificate. On this special occasion, the Hamrun Scouts opened the celebration with a parade and after the 9.30am Mass, the altar boys carried a small statue of Saint Francis. More
